Control Science &Engineering Technological Innovation Base

1. Overview

Composed of former I. A. team and their supervisors, Control Science &Engineering Technological Innovation Base is one of the innovation team alliance members of the first Qi’ming School. The base official full name is “Intelligent Robot and Intelligent System Simulation Technology Innovation Base of Control Science &Engineering and it is under the administration of the department.

Control Science &Engineering Technological Innovation Base is mainly engaged in five major contests: “The Freescale Cup National University Smart Car Racing Contest”, “Renesas MCU Super-intelligent Car Racing Contest”, “Electronic Design Contest”, “Mathematical Modeling Contest” and “Logistics Design Contest”. It is also involved in a variety of foundation and self-innovation projects such as “Inertial Sensor Wireless Mouse”, “Smart Desk Lamp”, “Biped Walking Robot”, “Robot Fish”, “Humanoid Robot” and etc. Currently, we offer three Bachelor's degree programs (Automation, Measuring & Control Technology and Instrumentations, Logistics). To cultivate talents with outstanding hands-on ability, we will keep on perfecting our training system. The hard work of students and their supervisors pays off when they win champions of various competitions. So far a great number of excellent students have graduated; some of them got recommendation for admission to Tsinghua University Graduate School for doctoral degree study and some got offer from prestigious American universities.
To provide for all HUST students a platform to fulfill their potential and enhance their overall quality is our unremitting pursuit.

2. Original form of the Base ——I.A.(Intelligent Application team)

In 2007 summer, Cheng Zhao, who was then a junior and his teammates represented the university to participated in “Freescale Cup National University Smart Car Racing”. The team won the second prize in the national contest. In September 2007, Cheng Zhao and his teammates founded I.A. (Intelligent Application team). The whole team consisted of only a dozens of students when it was first established.

In October 2007, the team recruited for the first time. In April 2008, the team moved from University Student Activity Center to the Engineering Training Center. In May 2008, the team recruited for the second time and founded its second executive committee. The year 2008 is a significant year in history of the team development; major events of the year are listed as follows:

In April 2008, the team was awarded the honor of “Star Team” of the department.
In July 2008, the Freesacle project team participated the Third National University Smart Car Racing Contest. The team won the second prize and the excellence prize in the South China Division.

In October 2008, the paper on robot fish entitled “Study on Robot Fish Control Parameter Based on Bar System” was accepted.

In November 2008, as technical support I. A. started hosting the third HUST Smart Car Racing Contest.  In November 2008, Renesas MCU Super-intelligent Car Racing was completed; the competing team from HUST won the second place of Group A and the champion of Group B. Both teams were invited to Japan for international academic exchange.

In December 2008, the third HUST Smart Car Racing Contest was successfully held. I.A. provided all technical support throughout the competition. The team I.A. dispatched monopolized all top three.

In December 2008, HUST Aerial Flying Leopard Cup Electronic Intelligence Contest was successfully held. The project “Smart Desk Lamp” stood out and won the champion.

In December 2008, two projects project “Smart Desk Lamp” and “Wireless Mouse” won the third prize in HUST Truth-seeking Cup Extracurricular Science and Technology Work Contest.

In December 2008, I.A. was awarded “HUST Annual Excellent Team for Science and Technology Innovation” and many a team members were awarded the honorable title of “Excellent Individual for Science and Technology Innovation”.

The team grows fast and steadily and now it ushers in new opportunity for development.

In April 2009, I. A. changed its name to Control Science &Engineering Technological Innovation Base. The base gained direct support from the Department of Control Science &Engineering and won the approval of becoming a member of Qi’ming School. This marks a milestone of I. A. status change which grows from a pure student group to an official and professional team.

In 2009, the competing team from the base won two second prizes in the fourth Freescale Cup National University Smart Car Racing Contest (national grand final) and successfully retained the champion in Renesas MCU Super-intelligent Car Racing Contest.
