Chen Xiaoping

Chen Xiaoping was born in Funan, Anhui Province in June,1953. He graduated from Bengbu Medical College in 1973 and obtained his master’s degree and Ph.D from Tongji Medical University in 1982 and in 1985 respectively.


Now he is the head of surgical department, director of Institute on Surgery of the Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas of Tongji Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College, HUST.


He has been devoted to the clinical trail, teaching and research of surgery for 40 years and performed over 10,000 operations on liver, biliray and pancreas, including over 6,000 liver cancers.


Based on the work done by Qiu Zufa, Wu Mengchao and Tang Zhaoyou, he has made systematic innovative progress in the surgical treatment of liver cancer and liver transplatation by putting forward the classification of cancer and the theory of safe hepatectomy and establishing 3 hepatectomy blooding control technologies and 1 liver transplantation technology. These theories and technologies have been applied to clinical trials with prominent effects.


His achievements won the applaud of his domestic and foreign counterparts. He was successively awarded the National Second Prize for Science and Technology Progress in 2004, the National First Prize for Science and Technology Progress nominated by MOE in 2006, Chinese Medicine Technology First Prize in 2002, Hubei First Prize for Science and Technology Progress in 2013, HLHL Science and Technology Progress Award in 2007, Medal Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Chinese Liver, Biliary and Pancreas Surgery in 2008, MOE Second Prize for Science and Technology Progress in 2010, Chinese Anti-cancer Association First Prize of Technology in 2012, Hubei Scientific and Technological Achievement Promotion First Prize in 2013.


Professor Renzo, the honarary academician of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh published a paper in Nature, in which he commented “Professor Chen Xiaoping is the pioneer of improvement and innovation in the international liver, biliay tract and pancreas surgical technology.”


He attaches great importance to the cultivation of his medical ethics and medical education. He was honored the national famous teacher in 2006, national advanced individual in public health in 2007, outstanding young and middle aged expert of Ministry of Health in 2008, the winner of National May 1st Labour Medal in 2011, national medical ethics model in 2013 and winner of national second prize for outstanding teaching achievements in 2005. He is alos the composer of the textbook for national medical college students -Surgery.
