HUST Obtained the Accreditation of Studying Abroad in China Organized by MoE

On December 15th, the Release of the Report on Internationalization of Higher Education in China and the Conference of the Accreditation of Studying Abroad in China was held in Beijing. At the conference, the result of the second batch of accreditations of studying abroad in China was released, and HUST successfully passed the accreditation organized by the Ministry of Education and obtained the certification.

 

 In October 2016, HUST took part in the accreditations of studying abroad in China as a member of the second batch of pilot institutes. HUST attached great importance to this work and established a steering group for self-assessment of the accreditation.

 

After procedures like expert review and centralized appraisal, HUST won the high praise of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and relevant experts, successfully passed the evaluations, and obtained the Certification of Accreditation of Studying Abroad in China.

 

 

In 1962, HUST recruited international students for the first time. After the establishment of SIE in 2002, the international education of HUST has developed rapidly. In 2013, HUST was approved by the Ministry of Education as one of the first “National Demonstration Base for Studying Abroad in China”. In 2017, the number of the international students at HUST reached 4,049, topping Hubei province and leading the country, and the number of the international students studying for master’s degree ranked second in the country. The quality of the sources of international students has continually improved. More and more students from world-renowned elite universities, such as RWTH Aachen University, University of Toronto, Waseda University and Chulalongkorn University, come to China and study at HUST. The academic performance of international students has also steadily improved, with the number of the students who publish Class A or Class T papers increasing year by year. In addition, the international education and teaching have produced fruitful results. The paper, The Exploration and Practice of Internationalization of Education System on Undergraduate Telecommunication Engineering in English for International Students Studying Abroad in China, won the first prize in the Teaching Achievements Contest of Hubei Province, and seven courses, including Elements of Information Theory and Public Policy Analysis, were awarded the national-level brand courses in English for international students. The assimilative administration of international students has been carried forward and a complete set of education and administration system of international students has been established. Up to the present, HUST has trained more than 5,000 high-calibre talents of all kinds for 155 countries, such as Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar, deputy director of the Ministry of Finance of Mongolia, Chantha Onxayvieng, director of the Public Administration Research and Training Institute of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Laos, Tran Quang Anh, vice president of University of Posts and Telecommunications in Vietnam, and Suttapong Ketsaraporn, associate vice president of Prince of Songkla University in Thailand, and effectively expanded the influence of HUST around the world, contributing to the implementation of the national diplomatic strategy and the strategy of opening up.

  

Commissioned by the Ministry of Education, CEAIE launched the pilot project of the Accreditation of Studying Abroad in China in 2015. With the documents like Outline of China’s National Plan for Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development (2010-2020), Study in China Project, and Opinions on China’s Educational Opening-up in the New Era as the basis and with the Higher Education Institutes Accreditation Index System of Studying Abroad in China as the standard, CEAIE carried out the accreditations and encouraged higher education institutes to implement the work policies proposed by the Ministry of Education by evaluating their education, administration and service for international students, improving the quality of international education in China. A number of higher education institutes which have a great influence in the field of international education, such as Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University and HUST, obtained the accreditation.
