News.hust.edu.cn (Correspondent: Fang Huiming Reporter: Fan Qian)--On November 6, at the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award Conference 2018, Prof. Shao Xinyu of the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Award for Progress in Science and Technology in recognition of his achievements in the theoretical research, technical development and engineering application of key basic technologies and equipment of automotive manufacturing.
Shao led the R&D of various large-power laser processing lines with innovative technologies, as well as production process optimization digitalization platforms with independent intellectual property rights. His research findings have been applied successfully by enterprises like FAW, Dongfeng and SAIC, achieved remarkable social and economic benefits, and won the First National Award for Progress in Science and Technology once and the Second National Award for Progress in Science and Technology twice. He is currently the head of an NSFC innovation group, a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a distinguished professor in the Cheung Kong Scholars Programme of the Ministry of Education and the chief scientist of a "973 project". He has obtained 51 patents for invention, published 115 SCI papers and 112 EI papers, and published two monographs.
Set up in 1994 by Hong Kong's patriotic financiers Ho Sin Hang, Leung Kau-Kui, Ho Tim and Lee Quo-wei, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation awards grants to outstanding Chinese scientists, to promote the technology progress and innovation of China. Supported and guided by the Central People's Government and the Hong Kong SAR Government, the foundation has awarded grants to 1,306 outstanding scientists, engineers and industrial leaders, and become a model science & technology set up by social forces because of its impartiality and authoritativeness.
At the award conference, a total of 56 domestic scientific workers received awards. Among them, 1 received the Science & Technology Achievement Award, 37 the Science & Technology Progress Award and 18 the Science & Technology Innovation Award.
