State Key Laboratory of Materials Processing and Die & Mould Technology
Since the laboratory was founded in 1991, it has focused on fulfilling national demands, developing fundamental study, pioneering scientific and technological innovation, promoting the applications of research achievements, and leading the development trend in the material processing field. This has significantly benefited the national economy and with more efforts, this lab will be further developed to be a world-known institute for research, talents cultivation, and academic exchange.
Currently, there are more than 60 researchers including one member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 Distinguished Young Scientists awarded by the National Science Foundation, 3 Changjiang Scholars, 6 overseas experts introduced by “National Thousand Experts Plan”, and 600 graduate students working in this lab. In recent years, more than 60 million RMB has been invested to establish the advanced material characterization and performance analysis platform, precision molding technology research platform, material preparation technology research platform, and rapid prototyping technology research platform, which provide great support for fundamental research, technological innovation, talents cultivation, and academicexchange.
With years of unremitting endeavor, the lab has developed distinctive features and advantages, and numerous outstanding achievements in the main research directions such as material processing simulation theory & methodology, computer-aided mold design & manufacturing, rapid prototyping & rapid tooling, precision molding processes & equipment and advanced material preparation & applications. The lab has been granted more than 10 national awards including National Natural Science Awards, Technology Innovation Awards and Technology Progress Awards, and more than 50 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels respectively. Among them, the achievement in laser sintering was voted as the top 10 technology advancements in China in 2011. Moreover, the lab has published more than 1,500 SCI papers and patented over 200 inventions. The research outcomes have been applied in more than 2,000 enterprises, research institutions, and colleges, and provided effective solutions to many technical challenges in the forming and fabrication processes in the fields of aerospace, automobile, household electronics, and machinery, which have tremendously promoted the industrial technology developments, and benefited the national economy. Meanwhile, the international impacts of the laboratory are growing steadily. Some breakthroughs are regarded as milestones in the relevant fields by the international academic circle. The research team has earned high recognition thanks to its originality and creativity, and was elected as ‘the world’s best innovative cooperative partner’ by world famous corporations.
In the future, the laboratory will continue its ‘openness, communication, cooperation, and competition’ policy, aim to obtain breakthrough achievements in both fundamental research and technological innovation, play a more important role in the development of the national economy, and become a world-class institution for research, talents cultivation and academic exchange.
