The inauguration ceremony of the HUST-Siemens Digital Twin Research Center was held at Wutongyu Academic Exchange Center on Nov 17th. Xie Xiaolin, Vice President of HUST and Zhu Xiaoxun, Executive Vice President of Siemens CN attended the ceremony.
HUST has attached great importance to interdisciplinary studies and discipline innovation in recent years, Xie said. He noted that the university has made great contributions to China’s scientific and technological growth by nurturing high-quality talent. Hailing the cooperation “promising”, Xie encouraged the two parties to better leverage various platforms to yield fruitful results that benefit mankind.
Liao Xiaofei, Dean of the Office of Research and Development, said that the university highly values cooperation with the enterprise and he hoped that the research center could better serve the local community based on the need of the enterprise.
Zhu pointed out that the university’s research resources and capacity - as well as Wuhan’s manufacturing resources – are the reasons why the company is willing to cooperate with the school. He expressed hope that the digital twin research center will encourage the promotion and application of technologies in Wuhan – as well as the development of talented HUST students. He also looked forward to all-round cooperation regarding the training of doctors of engineering.
According to Li Ming, General R&D Manager of the Research Institute of Siemens China, the research center will improve its influence through different avenues, such as holding student competitions, applying for national scientific research projects, and cooperating with other enterprises and universities.
Gao Liang, chair of the School Committee, School of Mechanical Science and Engineering at HUST, introduced the collaborative opportunities and future work plans between the two sides as well as the progress of cooperation in four areas – the joint development of the digital twin research center, the operation model of the digital twin workshop, the application of isogeometric analysis in topology optimization and humanoid robot simulation.
Afterwards, the participants visited the National Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology and the Intelligent Design and Numerical Control Technology Innovation Center.
