On January 17, HUST held a meeting of the leading group for "opening-up" of education. Li Yuanyuan, Chair of the University Committee and head of the leading group, together with President You Zheng, Vice President Chen Jianguo, Vice President Zhan Yiqing, Vice Chair of the University Committee Ma Jianhui, Vice President Xie Xiaolin and relevant officials attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Chen Jianguo.

The meeting mainly deliberated issues related to strategic development planning, sino-foreign joint programs, construction of an international campus, and international student training.

You Zheng pointed out that Office of International Affairs should go a step further to seek more practical results, initiate leading measures, and strengthen the top-level design of internationalization. He also urged efforts towards in-depth and distinctive cooperation, and called for forward-looking, systematic, and executable measures.

Li Yuanyuan acknowledged the progress in the university's progress towards internationalization in recent years. He said that national development and the growth of universities are complementary goals. As China is moving towards the center of the world stage, China's first-class universities should respond actively to the needs and concern of the world as a whole. He asked relevant units to summarize their experiences to upgrade the level of internationalization. Li Yuanyuan also emphasized that HUST will persist in the direction of opening-up[2] , and strive for innovative integration of science and education.

Heads of president's office, Office of Undergraduate Education, Finance Office, Office of International Affairs, Department of General Affairs and Logistics, School of International Education and other relevant departments attended the meeting.
