HUST delegation, headed by Vice President Chen Jianguo, concluded their 5-day trip to Hong Kong and Macao starting on February 20th. The delegation made official visits to several local universities with the aim of promoting cooperation in education and technology with the SARs. The delegation also visited the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR.
On the morning of February 20th, the delegation visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and held talks with Vice President Chan Wai-yee. Also present were representatives of CUHK’s Office of CU in Chinese Mainland & Taiwan and the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (JCSPHPC). The two sides reviewed the previously signed academic exchange agreement and expressed hope for further cooperation concerning mutual learning and exchange.

Later the same day, Wang Zuankai, Vice President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), welcomed the delegation on campus. The two sides exchanged views on extending high-level scientific research cooperation and cultivating innovative talents. Chen Jianguo suggested expanding mutually beneficial collaboration in fields such as architecture, civil engineering, and optics. Wang Zuankai highlighted PolyU's recent progress and urged both universities to strengthen cooperation by establishing the seed fund and joint laboratories, building on the existing solid foundation of collaboration.
After the talks, Chen Jianguo presented a letter of appointment to Li Heng, Professor at PolyU’s Faculty of Construction and Environment, as HUST’s advisory professor. Li expressed his gratitude and pledged to carry on in-depth cooperation with HUST, particularly in the field of intelligent construction. Later, Chen Jianguo visited Professor Li's smart construction laboratory along with representatives from HUST’s School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering.

On the morning of February 21st, the delegation visited the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR. Wu Cheng, the Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Technology of the Liaison Office, met with the delegation. Chen Jianguo briefed the recent advancements of HUST and its exchange and cooperation with Hong Kong, conveying wishes to contribute to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area). Wu Cheng emphasized the development blueprint of Hong Kong’s International Innovation and Technology(I&T) Hub, hoping that HUST can leverage its own disciplinary expertise to assist the construction of the hub. Additionally, Wu suggested the establishment of a regular institutional SciTech cooperation platform in Hong Kong to serve the development of the Greater Bay Area.

On the afternoon of the 21st, the delegation visited the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and met with its Vice President Matthew K. O. Lee. The two sides reviewed their respective achievements in recent years, looking forward to future cooperation. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation on scientific research by establishing seed funds and constructing joint laboratories. Chen Jianguo and Matthew K. O. Lee then witnessed the signing of the cooperation agreements between the two universities. Later, Chen Jianguo and representatives from the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics of HUST visited the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery and the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves (SKLTMW), accompanied by Chan Chi Hou, Director of SKLTMW and Acting Provost of the CityU.

On February 22nd, the delegation visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and met with Vice President Wang Yang. Both sides discussed the in-depth cooperation between the two universities' advantageous disciplines. Both agreed to extend collaboration in various forms, including joint labs and student/faculty exchanges. Wang then invited HUST representatives to visit the HKUST Guangzhou Campus. The delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies, accompanied by Man Wong, Director of the laboratory, and Andrew Wing On Poon, Head of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering of HKUST.

On an afterward visit on February 23rd to the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), the HUST delegation met with Kwong Ying Wa, Vice President of MUST, and Zhu Yizhun, Associate Vice President of MUST. The two sides discussed the possibilities of a pragmatic and friendly relationship of inter-university cooperation. Later, the delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and carried out in-depth discussions on cooperation in key disciplines.

On February 24th, the delegation visited the University of Macau (UM), where they met with its Vice President Mok Kai Meng. The two sides further discussed the newly signed cooperation agreement between the two universities. They also consented to extend multilevel coordination and deepen the partnership between the two universities in all respects. Later, the delegation explored the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, accompanied by Chen Xin, Director of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences of the University of Macau and Interim Director of SKL-QRCM (UM). They learned further about the advantageous disciplines of the UM, thus paving the path for future cooperation in more fields.
