On August 19th, the first Digital Public Governance Forum was held by the School of Public Administration of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The forum focused on the topic of “Digital Public Governance and Chinese Path to Modernization”, aiming to develop an open and inclusive platform for cooperation, an academic brand with a wide influence and an advanced think tank empowered by technology.
Some important consensuses were reached at the forum. (1) In building the discipline of digital public governance, we need to solve new problems in the digital age and provide new theories and guidance for actual practice, thus promoting the development of public governance in the new era. (2)We need to speed up discipline construction and form norms in the cultivation of talents in digital public governance, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, international exchange and cooperation, etc. (3) We need to encourage combined efforts among the government, colleges, corporations and social groups to build an academic system with Chinese characteristic in digital public governance. (4) We need to serve the national strategies. (5) We need to engage in global governance and propose China’s solutions to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Present at the forum are scholars and experts from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Fudan University, etc., and representatives from the Chinese Public Administration Society and China Construction Bank. They made in-depth discussions on “digital public governance and complete knowledge base construction”, “digital China and Chinese modernization”, “digital governance and the modernization of the national governance system and capabilities”, and “digital culture and current situations of digital governance”, and shared their research progress.
Being regarded as “the great representation of Chinese higher education”, HUST conducts organized scientific research as well as academic cooperation. Moreover, HUST encourages the integration of scientific and humanities education, and promotes the convergence of of humanities and social sciences with information technology and engineering, thereby bolstering the growth and development of liberal arts.
The School of Public Administration of HUST stays on the path of interdiscipline integration, focusing on the cultivation of high-level, multi-talented individuals in public administration. In recent years, the school has leveraged HUST's strengths in information technology to prioritize digital public governance. Distinctive research directions have been established in areas such as digital government, smart cities, and intelligent decision-making.
