On the morning of June 17, the HUST Global Summer School 2024 kicked off. Outstanding young students from 24 countries, including the U.S., the UK, France, Germany and Singapore, gathered at the foot of Yujia Mountain for the opening of the program. Present were President You Zheng, Vice President Zhan Yiqing and Assistant President Wen Jinyu of HUST. Chen Jie, Director of the Office of International Affairs, hosted the opening ceremony.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Zhan noted that compared to last year, the HUST Global Summer School 2024 has significantly broadened its scope, introduced a more varied curriculum, and enhanced the richness of its content. It has made substantial advancements in delivering superior educational courses, offering a wide selection of content and providing an immersive cross-cultural learning experience. Encouraging the participants to learn from each other, broaden their horizons and embrace a spirit of initiative, she called on the participants to jointly explore solutions to global challenges and contribute their youthful vigor to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
During the session of teacher representatives' speeches, Sylvain Fisson from Paris-Saclay University highlighted that as we mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France, sending French students to HUST Global Summer School is a valuable opportunity to enhance scientific, cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. This initiative is set to broaden the students' horizons and enrich their academic experiences. Prof. Chen Rong, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, HUST, stressed that the "2024 Chinese Language + AI Robot Summer School" program focuses on cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence, inclusive robotics and intelligent manufacturing. It offers an array of frontier interdisciplinary lectures, practical engagements, and a suite of premium courses.
During the session of student representatives' speeches, Madeleine Jane Wright, an undergraduate from the University of Birmingham, noted China's extensive global influence in technological innovation and intelligent manufacturing. She intended to take full advantage of the HUST Global Summer School platform for an in-depth study of advanced knowledge and an immersive experience of Chinese culture. Huang Siming, an undergraduate from the School of Computer Science and Technology, HUST, introduced the distinctive features of the "HUST-USYD Summer School: Parallel Programming Hands-on Workshop" program with parallel programming as the focus. He expected to learn from and progress together with peers from all over the world throughout the summer school program.
You Zheng announced the opening of the HUST Global Summer School 2024 and extended a warm welcome to the participants. You Zheng, Zhan Yiqing and Wen Jinyu, together with Zhu Jintao, Dean of the Graduate School; and Zhou Liping, Dean of the School of International Education, launched the program.
The HUST Global Summer School 2024 is scheduled to take place from June 17 to September 1. This year's program features nine top-quality course modules and special practical experiences. The educational responsibilities are distributed across 19 faculties and institutions, including the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, the School of Life Science and Technology, the School of Public Health and the School of Management. The program pools quality teaching resources from the entire university and collaborates with esteemed professors from around the globe to deliver the curriculum. Utilizing a variety of formats such as lecture, discussion, visit and practice, it aims to develop into a cutting-edge academic exchange platform that bridges cultures and transcends disciplinary boundaries.
