The 7th National Clinical Skills Competition Finals Concluded in HUST

From May 20th to May 22nd, the 7th National Clinical Skills Competition Finals for Medical Colleges was held in Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It was organized by HUST and co-hosted by Medical Education and Clinical Teaching Research Center and Branch Steering Committee for Clinical Majors Practice and Teaching of MOE, PRC.

After two days of fierce competition, the representative teams from Guangxi Medical University, Jilin University, and Fujian Medical University won the special prize. The first prize went to Central South University and other 4 universities. 12 representative teams won second prize and 22 teams won third prize.

Prof. Chen Jianguo, vice president of HUST, presided over the opening ceremony of the competition. On behalf of HUST, he extended warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the participants.

Prof. Shao Xinyu, standing vice president of HUST, summarized the achievements Tongji Medical College has made in recent years in medical education, discipline construction, etc. He also expressed our sincerity to take this opportunity to learn from other medical education institutions and improve our quality of teaching and professionals.

On the theme of “Clinical skills, Life, and Soul”, 168 members, 42 representative teams out of 118 teams in 155 different medical colleges took part in the competition in terms of clinical skills and theoretical knowledge.

The competition consisted of preliminary competition, quarter-final, semifinal, and final. In order to simulate the real clinical situations, all the competitors were required to demonstrate their clinical skills and thinking by means of teaching models, standardized patient, dynamic question chain, etc.

In skills competition, all the competitors are required to complete more than 30 projects like trachea cannula insertion, venous blood collection, CPR, allergic shock rescue, etc., covering multiple disciplines like medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, first aid, nursing, etc. Not only their skills and thinking are demonstrated, but also their medical ethics, humanism, esprit de corps, and degree of poise are needed to fulfill the tasks.

The National Clinical Skills Competition is the only state-level competition project for domestic medical colleges. It is an annual events held in China since 2010, aiming to improve the expertise and practical skills of medical students while advocating esprit de corps and originality. Through competition, medical education institutions will attach more importance to the teaching and training of clinical skills and make their students better professionals.
