In the first sub-forum, Chen Jianguo delivered a speech on the topic of "Expanding the Opening-up of Education and Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind". He introduced HUST’s exploration and practice in the international cooperation on talent training, scientific research, and the promotion of cultural exchanges and mutual learning.
Chen Jianguo pointed out that science and education shoulder the mission of contributing to the progress of human civilization. Committed to open education, HUST actively carries out multi-level cooperation with world-renowned universities, promoting the cultivation of global innovative talents. The university also deepens international cooperation in scientific research to address global challenges with the rest of the world. Besides, following the principle of exchanges and mutual learning, HUST strives to promote dialogue among global civilizations. Chen said that as this year marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, Xi Jinping, President of China, and Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, jointly made it clear that China and Japan should take a long-term view and leverage the advantages of geographical proximity and cultural connection to carry out all-round and multi-channel exchanges.
Chen emphasized that openness is the gene of the university and the foundation of its vitality and creativity. The university has officially released the HUST Global Strategy 2030, and launched the International Education and Scientific Innovation Zone (Junshan Branch) of HUST. Looking forward, the university will continue to uphold the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and work with Japanese partners to make greater contributions to promoting scientific progress and global development.
In addition to HUST, participating universities include Xiamen University, Central China Normal University, Hokkaido University, and Osaka University and so on.
It is reported that the Sino-Japanese University Scientific and Technological Innovation Forum (formerly Sino-Japanese University Exhibition and Forum) is currently the largest non-governmental inter-university exchange activity between China and Japan. Since 2010, several forums have been held in China to promote joint research of U-I integration, scientific, cultural and talent exchange, and strengthen the win-win cooperation between both sides.
