The 13th China-ROK University Presidents Forum, hosted by Jeonbuk National University, kicked off on December 7. Jang Sang-yoon, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education of South Korea, and Xing Haiming, Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, as well as nearly 120 presidents and representatives from 47 Chinese and South Korean universities participated in the forum online. Prof. Chen Jianguo, Vice President of HUST, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech.
The participants shared their insights and experience on the cooperation programs between Chinese and South Korean universities for the development of higher education in the post-pandemic era, and talked about the future of the innovation in university education in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Chen Jianguo made a keynote speech themed “Strengthening cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and South Korean universities to build a human community with a shared future”. He shared HUST’s practices in global talent training, international research collaboration and cultural exchanges. He emphasized that HUST will continue to enhance its collaboration with South Korean universities in the above areas and contribute to forging mutually beneficial relations.
In the discussion session, Chen pointed out the importance of working together through difficulties and maintaining an open attitude. He also called on both sides to uphold the concept of a human community with a shared future and foster the worldwide collaboration in essential areas such as health, environment and climate, and join hands to promote the high-quality development of the regional economy and higher education.
Senior leaders from Hanyang University, Kyung Hee University, Yonsei University, Kangwon University, Tongji University, Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, Xiamen University, Harbin Institute of Technology and other Chinese and Korean universities also attended the forum.
The China-ROK University Presidents’ Forum, initiated by the ministries of education of China and South Korea, has been listed as a key cooperation project in education under the framework of the China-ROK Joint Committee on Humanities Exchange. It has become an important platform for higher education exchanges between the two countries.
