From November 22nd to 24th, the International Association of Universities (IAU) International Conference took place at Sophia University in Japan, and HUST was invited to attend.
Chen Jie, Director of HUST’s Office of International Affairs, was invited to participate in the breakout session themed "Higher Education Towards Global Citizenship". She presented a report titled "Global Citizenship Education in the New Era: HUST’S Exploration and Practice". Afterwards, she exchanged ideas with Inga Žalėnienė, Rector of Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), Rosalia Baena, Vice President of the University of Navarra (Spain), Ken Aoki, Director of the Sophia Institute for Human Security, and Michael Goh, Professor at the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development.
Chen Jie highlighted the increasing importance of global citizenship education in this changing world. HUST supports this by creating international courses, expanding exchange programs, and developing a global campus, aiming to nurture open-minded, culturally aware and socially responsible global citizens.
During the conference, representatives from HUST’s Office of International Affairs talked with representatives from partner universities, such as Mahidol University (Thailand) and Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil).
At Waseda University and Institute of Science Tokyo, Chen Jie met with representatives from both institutions. She introduced HUST’s proposals for cooperation with Japan and invited their university leaders to attend the 14th China-Japan University Presidents Forum to be held at HUST next year.
Established in 1950 with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), IAU encourages collaboration in higher education and research, while strengthening exchanges between its over 600 member institutions. HUST joined as a member in 2023.
