Professors Wang Jiangchao and Jin Fengfu from the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) led 26 undergraduate students on a study visit to the University of Southampton (UoS) in the United Kingdom from May 3 to 11. Through academic coursework, practical field visits, and cultural exchanges, the program further deepened the collaboration between the two universities in talent cultivation and research innovation.
During the study visit, the delegation attended several academic lectures, including "Introduction of Maritime CFD with Applications" and "Fluid-Structure Interactions". They also joined local students and studied nearly 10 high-quality courses, such as Materials and Structures.
The delegation also engaged in hands-on educational experiences. At a lab from Southampton Science Park, both teachers and students gained firsthand insight into interdisciplinary applications through cutting-edge platforms such as fluid dynamics and flight simulators. At the National Oceanography Center, the delegation boarded a research vessel developed by UoS and observed the operational principles and working models of deep-sea exploration equipment. The delegation also visited the UoS Library and the SeaCity Museum.
In-depth exchanges were also conducted between teachers and students from both universities. Associate Professor Wang Jiangchao from HUST and Professor Xiong Yeping from UoS each presented their latest research findings to the students. Students also shared their own scientific and technological innovation achievements and engaged in active discussions.
Since 2017, HUST and UoS have maintained a collaborative partnership, having organized seven undergraduate delegation exchange programs, and established a regular platform for student interaction. They have also developed various joint education models, such as "2+2", "3+1", and "3+2" programs, integrating both undergraduate and master's degree studies.
The School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering continues strengthening its exchanges and collaborations with leading universities worldwide, broadening students' international perspectives and academic horizons. It is dedicated to cultivating interdisciplinary talents with solid professional foundations, exceptional innovative capacities, and strong practical skills.
