Lecture on UN by Dr. Gearon of Oxford University

Dec 11, 2020

The next lecture of Global Engagement and Talent Cultivation Program will be held on the CCtalk platform at 20:00 this Saturday, December 12. The lecture will be given by Dr. Liam Francis Gearon, Associate Professor in Religious Education in the Department of Education, Senior Research Fellow at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford.

Dr. Gearon has worked extensively with UNESCO, including consulting on the official UNESCO Guidelines on Inter-cultural Education of 2006 as well as contributing to Contemporary Issues in Human Rights Education published by UNESCO in 2011.

In this lecture, Dr. Gearon will introduce the origins and history of the United Nations, while further illustrating its purposes and enduring problems. The professor will primarily focus on how the political philosophy of the Enlightenment, in the 18th century, and the following reforms under its influence shaped the UN two centuries later.

In addition, thanks to the professor’s concern regarding human and civil rights issues, he will also introduce the UN’s efforts in protecting human and civil rights - highlighting problems to be solved.
