Prof. Yang Jiakuan elected as FRSC

On July 15th, 2022, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) sent a congratulation letter to Professor Yang Jiakuan from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, HUST, on his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).

Founded in 1841, the Royal Society of Chemistry is the world's oldest and Europe’s largest academic society in chemical sciences, as well as one of the most internationally influential academic authorities. The Society is currently home to about 1,600 Fellows and Foreign Members, including nearly 80 Nobel laureates. Each year, out of more than 700 candidates nominated by experts, only about 50 British and international scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the field of chemical sciences are accepted as Fellows by the Society.


Professor Yang Jiakuan is currently the Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at HUST. Meanwhile, he works as a member of the National Advisory Committee for Environmental Sciences Teaching under the Ministry of Education, the Standing Director of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and other academic positions in Hubei Province. He previously held the position of Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge and Senior Visiting Scholar at the School of Geography and Environment of the University of Oxford. He has received numerous honors, such as the national high-level talent, the State Council subsidized expert and the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award.


Professor Yang Jiakuan focuses his technical research on solid waste treatment, disposal, and recycling. He is now in charge of projects of the National Science and Technology Support Program and general and key programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Additionally, he has published numerous research papers in domestic and international academic journals and owns more than 30 patents of invention, including 2 US patents. Some of his achievements in the field of solid waste have been industrialized and applied in engineering to benefit the national ecological environment. Furthermore, he has received a total of 5 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, including 1 first prize of the Natural Science Award by the Ministry of Education (ranked first), 1 first prize of the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (ranked first), and 1 first prize of the Hubei Provincial Award for Technological Invention (ranked second).
