The first HUST Global Alumni Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition concluded

On October 5th, 2022, the final of the first HUST Global Alumni Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was successfully held. President You Zheng and Vice President Xu Xiaodong attended the event.


  


You Zheng pointed out in his speech that innovative education has always been one of the key tasks of HUST. For the past 70 years, HUST has provided systematic training programs on innovation and entrepreneurship based on the student-centered principle. It encourages initiative exploration, and many HUST alumni have been featured on Forbes 30 Under 30 China lists, You added. He hoped that HUST alumni could continue to innovate and contribute to China’s high-quality economic development.


 

Zhou Qihong, deputy director of the Education Department of Hubei province, also delivered a speech. He spoke highly of HUST’s contributions to the country’s sci-tech self-reliance through the building of over 20 national innovation platforms. Zhou introduced Hubei’s “talent card” scheme, which was launched this year to provide preferential service to high-end talents, and expressed his hope to see more HUST alumni set up businesses in Hubei.

 

Liu Zhitian, deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of Hubei province, praised the event as not only a golden opportunity to showcase participants’ projects, but also a step toward advancing Hubei’s development. The Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department will continue to support HUST with abundant resources and high-quality services, said Liu.

 

 

48 projects were divided into four groups to compete in the final, and the winner of each group competed for the title match. The award winners were unveiled after seven hours of intense competition. PPIO project won the championship. The high-end semiconductor light source project of HCG and the lithium battery ultrasonic testing project took 2nd and 3rd place respectively. More than 20 experts served as judges, including Gong Hongjia, HUST alumni and founder of Jiadao Private Capital, Yuan Pei, HUST alumni and partner of Yuanlin Technology Enterprise, Yu Zida, HUST alumni and CEO of Sinomaster and Gao Liang, Chair of the School Committee, School of Mechanical Science and Engineering. Gong Hongjia spoke highly of the projects and hoped that more talents could participate in the competition.


Carrying strong technological values, the winning projects are anticipated to tackle problems in core research and be on the market in the near future. The HUST Global Alumni Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition will continue to be held as a platform for showcasing, exchange, cooperation and sci-tech advancement.
