Wuhan Optoelectric Information Sub-Forum of International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research, and Application 2022 held in HUST

Nov 16, 2022

On November 10th, the Wuhan Opto-electric Information Sub-Forum of International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research, and Application 2022 was held at HUST. This event, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education, the Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the School of Optical and Electronic Information, was held both online and offline simultaneously. More than 200 experts, scholars and students from home and abroad attended the forum.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Chen Jianguo, Vice-President of HUST, welcomed the participants and congratulated on the opening of this forum on behalf of HUST. He said that over the past years, HUST has committed itself to training talents and promoting University-Industry cooperation, especially in the field of Optoelectronic Information. Looking forward, HUST would further collaborate with institutions from more countries to achieve a wider and deeper integration of education, research and industrial development. And it expects to shape a new pattern of U-I integration that contributes to the development of optoelectronic information.

Afterward, the launching ceremony of the student exchange agreement between HUST and IOGS (Institut d'optique théorique et appliquée) was held. Chen Jie, Director of the Office of International Affairs of HUST, and Rémi Carminati, Institute Director of IOGS, reviewed the achievements of the cooperation programs between HUST and IOGS in the past five years. Both sides are ready to make concerted efforts to further advance student cultivation, and academic exchanges, as well as the cooperation of industry, education, research and application.

Chen Jianguo and Rémi Carminati presented the cooperation agreement.

During the academic report session, experts and scholars from universities and enterprises at home and abroad discussed optoelectronic information technology and its application, under the theme of “Gather in Optics Valley for the Future of Optoelectronic Information Industry”.

Professor Shen Ping of the Southern University of Science and Technology gave a report entitled "Key elements for a successful startup". He highlighted the important elements of a successful startup and a series of concepts that help foster students’ entrepreneurial mindset.

In his "Well-matured ultrafast fiber laser technology" report, Dr. Chen Kangkang, Chairman of YSL Photonics, provided an overview of the application and commercialization of ultrafast fiber lasers with unique machining effects in high-precision intelligent manufacturing.

Prof. Tang Jiang, the Dean of the School of Optical and Electronic Information of HUST, summarized the accomplishments made in the development of the optoelectronic information discipline of HUST and discussed the prospects for international cooperation mode of industry, education, research and application.

Professor Edward Sargent from Northwestern University gave a comprehensive presentation on the importance of machine learning in the rapid development and iteration of new solar cell materials and electrochemical catalytic conversion materials.

Professor Reuven Gordon of Victoria University introduced the nanoporous optical tweezer and its application. Through the application of nanoporous optical tweezers, his research group has developed a new method to overcome the challenges in the preparation of light sources in the field of quantum information such as single-photon sources.

Professor Asen Asenov from the University of Glasgow expounded that TCAD (Technology Computer Aided Design) and DTCO (Design Technology Co-Optimization) were vital to the research and development of advanced CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor).

Professor Neil Robertson of the University of Edinburgh addressed the application of Ambient-Light Photovoltaic Cells to Power the Internet-of-Things and discussed its improvement scheme.

Professor Arnaud Mussot from the Université de Lille gave a report on All-fiber Frequency Agile Triple-Frequency Comb Light Source.

Founded by the Ministry of Education in 2018, the International Conference on Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application aims to build a platform for cooperation among Chinese and foreign universities, research institutes and enterprises, and promote the connection of global education chain, talent chain, innovation chain and industrial chain. The sub-forum in HUST expects to bring together domestic and foreign experts to share their high-quality research and collaborative achievements to explore the path of high-level integration and cooperation of industry, education, research and application in optoelectric information, and enhance exchanges and cooperation in technology, innovation and talent training.
