On August 12, Beijing time, the 2024 Paris Olympics officially concluded. In this global sporting event, Chinese athletes showcased unity, determination, and tenacity, securing 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze medals. This marks the best performance by China in the history of the Summer Olympics held abroad, achieving both outstanding results and significant cultural accomplishments.

HUST students Chang Yani, Zheng Qinwen, and Sun Mengya represented China and delivered outstanding performances in diving, tennis, and canoeing. They earned a total of 3 gold medals and 1 bronze, showcasing the excellence of HUST on the global stage.

On July 27, local time, Chang Yani, an undergraduate from HUST’s School of Physical Education, along with her teammate Chen Yiwen, won gold in the women’s 3m synchronized springboard diving event. This victory secured China’s sixth consecutive Olympic gold in this event. This was the Chinese diving team’s first gold medal in this Olympics and the second gold medal for the Chinese sports delegation. On August 9, local time, Chang Yani won a bronze medal in the women’s 3m springboard diving final.

On August 3, local time, Zheng Qinwen, a 2023 sports training undergraduate from HUST’s School of Physical Education, defeated Croatia’s Donna Vekić 2-0 in the women’s singles tennis final, winning China’s first gold medal in Olympic tennis singles and setting a new record for Chinese tennis.

On August 9, local time, Sun Mengya, a 2022 sports training undergraduate from HUST’s School of Physical Education, along with her teammate Xu Shixiao, won gold in the women’s canoe sprint double 500 with a time of 1:52.81, successfully defending their title.

The remarkable performances of HUSTers at the Olympics further inspire the HUST community to strive for excellence and contribute to building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and advancing the development of a strong sports nation.
