From October 23 to 26, the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Grand Jamboree was held in Paris. Two teams from the School of Life Science and Technology participated in the competition. The HUST-UEVE-UPSaclay team claimed a gold medal and the HUST-China team won a silver medal.
The two teams have made adequate preparations and delivered their presentations successfully. They received high recognition from the judges and other teams. Benefiting from the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education program, the HUST-UEVE-UPSaclay team improved themselves through studying in top labs both in China and France. The HUST-China team have participated in various competitions and won many gold medals this year.
The HUST-UEVE-UPSaclay team has designed Aqua Guardian2, a biological measure, to cope with the pollutants caused by PET. They pioneered a new method to collect the contaminants in this program.
The HUST-China team contrived PETlizer to handle the increasingly serious threat posed by micro-plastic. Using two selective bacteria, it aims at reducing plastic pollution and improving agricultural productivity.
Taking full advantage of its academic strength, the School of Life Science and Technology has been exploring innovative talent culticattion. The School encourages students to compete and communicate in competitions, hoping to make the projects a platform to enhance students’ competence and academic horizons.
