The touring exhibition, "The Flavor Crossing Mountains and Seas: The Tea Route and the Coffee Journey", hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), opened on April 22 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The event is also a key cultural exchange program for the 2026 China-Brazil Year of Culture.
The opening ceremony was hosted by the Minas Gerais State Government, with attendees including UFMG President Alessandro Fernandes Moreira, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao, HUST Vice President Wen Jinyu, Chinese Consul General in Rio de Janeiro Tian Min, and representatives from Brazil's Ministry of Education, Minas Gerais State Government and Chinese-funded enterprises.
Wen Jinyu stated that "The Flavor Crossing Mountains and Seas: The Tea Route and the Coffee Journey" holds value for both trade and cultural exchange. This exhibition marks an important achievement in collaboration between the two universities, fostering interaction and communication between China and Brazil, with HUST continuing to expand cooperation with UFMG in areas such as academic research, cultural dissemination, and youth exchanges. Moreira said that UFMG will continue to deepen diverse exchanges with Chinese universities.
The event featured interactive activities, including Confucian tea ceremonies, calligraphy demonstrations, and creative tea and coffee tastings. There were also bilingual song performances and traditional Brazilian dance showcases as part of the cultural program.
The touring exhibition will stay in Belo Horizonte until June 22. Afterward, it will travel to 11 other cities across Brazil and will be established as a permanent exhibit at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. During the exhibition, HUST and UFMG will host an academic forum, and promote interdisciplinary exchange among China-Brazil experts.
