Martin Green visits HUST to deepen photovoltaic cooperation

Jul 10, 2026

Martin Green, Recipient of the 2025 China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award and Scientia Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney), visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on July 9 with his wife, Judith Green, and Dr. Jessica Yajie Jiang, Senior Research Fellow at the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering at UNSW Sydney.

Liu Bo, Chair of the University Committee at HUST, met with the delegation, while Vice President Zhang Yonghui presided over the meeting.

Liu Bo congratulated Martin Green on receiving the award, noting that the honor recognizes not only his outstanding academic achievements, but also his decades-long commitment to advancing China-Australia scientific collaboration and supporting the development of China's photovoltaic industry. She said HUST looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with UNSW Sydney to cultivate top innovative talent, advance cutting-edge photovoltaic technologies, and contribute to "dual carbon" goals and global sustainable development.

Martin Green thanked HUST for its warm welcome and recalled his long-standing ties with the university. He noted that his laboratory welcomed the first visiting scholar from HUST in 1981, followed by his own three-week lecture series on solar cells at HUST in 1984, marking the beginning of a lasting partnership with HUST and, more broadly, with China.

He also praised HUST's important role in supporting the development of the Optics Valley of China in Wuhan and expressed his commitment to further promoting China-Australia cooperation in photovoltaic research and technology commercialization.

Widely regarded as one of the founders of modern photovoltaic science and often hailed as the "father of modern photovoltaics", Martin Green has devoted more than five decades to high-efficiency silicon solar cell research, with his pioneering PERC technology becoming the world's mainstream high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cell technology.
