Liu Yaran, Chair of the School Committee from the School of Economics at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), led a six-member delegation to Brazil from Aug 23 to 28, aiming to expand collaboration channels in South America and advance educational and industry-academia-research cooperation.

The delegation signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Student Exchange in Summer Schools with Professor Alessandro Moreira, President of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).

The two universities have already jointly established the Brazilian Economic Development Research Center of HUST, co-hosted academic conferences, conducted collaborative research. HUST has also welcomed several master's and visiting doctoral students from UFMG. Using the summer school program, both parties plan to expand collaboration, including joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and academic conferences.

The delegation also visited the UFMG Confucius Institute, where discussions were held on topics including routine teaching management and using the institute's role as a platform for inter-university cooperation.

The delegation visited CPFL Energia Co on Aug 25, engaging with the company's management team on topics including the prospects of Brazil's electricity and carbon markets, core strategies for localized operations, Brazil's macroeconomic and investment environment, financing models, and recommendations for Chinese enterprises exploring global opportunities.

The delegation then visited the Chinese Consulate-General in Sao Paulo on Aug 26, holding discussions on educational and industrial cooperation between China and Brazil as well as the operating environment for Chinese enterprises in Brazil.

This visit strengthened the foundation of the school's collaboration with Brazilian universities and enterprises, fostering international industry-academia-research cooperation and talent exchange.
