The international symposium on Sino-Thai cultural exchange took place in Wuhan on Sept 12. The event was hosted by the Southeast Asian Studies Center of the National Institute of International Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (NIIS CASS) and co-organized by the ASEAN Research Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST).

Liu Libin, Deputy Dean of NIIS CASS, attended the symposium and delivered a speech. He highlighted the achievements of the China Research Center under the CASS and the National Research Council of Thailand since its establishment, particularly in fostering youth exchanges, scholar residency programs, and academic collaborations. Liu Libin emphasized that this symposium marks a pioneering milestone as the center's first joint research initiative.

Tong Wensheng, Deputy Director of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at HUST, noted that HUST has long prioritized regular, reciprocal exchanges with Thai universities and institutions. He affirmed HUST's ongoing commitment to deepening academic and cultural collaborations with Thai counterparts.

During the academic sessions, Chinese and Thai scholars discussed the intersections of culinary culture and ethnic migration, collaborations on intangible cultural heritage preservation, and cross-border ethnic interactions. Participants agreed that the symposium has significantly advanced cultural heritage preservation and vitalization, the continuity of culinary traditions, and cross-border ethnic engagement. It has also established a high-level platform for Sino-Thai cultural exchange and collaborative development.

More than 50 scholars from institutions including Guangxi University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Yunnan Minzu University, Thailand's Thammasat University, and Mahidol University attended the symposium. Professor Huang Dong, Director of the ASEAN Research Center at HUST, presided over the meeting.
