Oct 6, 2021

On September 29, the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the National Health Commission and other four ministries jointly announced the list of the first batch of National Experimental Bases for Intelligent Social Governance and approved 10 comprehensive bases and 7 fields. There are a total of 82 characteristic bases in these fields. Among 15 experimental bases for intelligent social governance in the field of health, HUST is the only base construction unit with health characteristic led by a university.

Based on HUST’s favorable researches on public health, health management, and artificial intelligence, the National Experimental Base for Intelligent Social Governance of Major Chronic Diseases is led by Xu Shunqing, professor of School of Public Health of HUST. With the School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation and the School of Medicine and Health Management, they provide a solid theoretical foundation and technical support for the construction of the National Experimental Base for Intelligent Social Governance of Major Chronic Diseases. HUST serves as the main body of research and technology, and the Health Commission of Hubei Province the main body of application in terms of the construction of the base.

The construction of the National Experimental Base for Intelligent Social Governance of Major Chronic Diseases is of great significance theoretically and practically. Theoretically, it can form the theory of intelligent management of major chronic diseases so as to provide guidance for the research of intelligent social governance in health and the development of comprehensive prevention and control of chronic diseases. Practically, it can not only provide information technology for residents health monitoring, patient self-management, and doctors treatment and diagnosis but also provide a scientific decision-making basis for health administrative departments to formulate chronic disease prevention and control policies. Combined with emerging artificial intelligence technology, the experimental base will improve levels of chronic disease monitoring and early warning, medical care, rehabilitation care, health management, versatile talent training, and health and intelligent social governance of Hubei Province, closely focusing on chronic disease management.

The National Experimental Base for Intelligent Social Governance of Major Chronic Diseases will give full play to the advantages of disciplines, talents and scientific research, accelerate the development of research on intelligent social governance of chronic diseases, promote the development of in-depth integration of chronic disease health management and intelligent models, making HUST’s contribution to the cause of intelligent health care.
