Hu Xinru, a 2022 School of Management PhD student at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), recently published a co-authored paper in Production and Operations Management (POM), a leading UTD24 journal.

The paper, titled Information Sharing and Financing Services on Online Retailing Platforms, was written in collaboration with her advisor, Professor Li Jianbin, and Professor Lu Lijian from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The study examines how major e-commerce platforms, such as Amazon and Tmall, support small and medium-sized sellers through two key services: information sharing and financing. Using a game theory model, the research reveals a trade-off between the two – how information sharing can reduce the appeal of financing services, and vice versa. The authors suggest that charging a fixed fee for information services can help strike a balance between the two, enhancing both platform efficiency and overall social welfare. This work offers valuable insights for designing integrated platform services.

POM, established in 1992, is one of the most influential journals in operations management, with a 2024 impact factor of 4.8 and a five-year impact factor of 6.0.
