State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion
The State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion (SKLCC) at Huazhong University of Science and Technology was founded in 1986 and accepted by the Chinese Government in 1991. SKLCC focuses on fundamental and applied R&D in the development of advanced, efficient and clean coal combustion technologies and has made significant achievements in relevant fields. The key research areas include combustion kinetics, pollutant formation and prevention, combustion modeling and simulation, combustion diagnostics and control, combustion (including new energy) technology development, and advanced power generation technologies. SKLCC has been equipped with an array of advanced research facilities and instruments, e.g. PIV, TGA-FTIR, ICP-AES etc., providing a full range of analytical and measurement capacities in coal combustion R&D. SKLCC has become one of the principal bases of fundamental research and technology development, as well as education and training of high-level talents in Combustion Science and Technology in China.SKLCC is open to national universities, institutions, and industrial departments of coal production, combustion, and power generation. SKLCC has also established extensive collaboration relations with a number of international partners in USA, Australia, France, UK, and Japan etc.

Collaboration and Exchange
With the financial support of “111” project and special exchange fund, the SKLCC has established strong collaboration with a number of national and international research groups in relevant research fields. Some world-renowned coal combustion scientists have been invited as honorary professors or distinguished scholars to visit and work at SKLCC, giving technical lectures, undertaking collaborative research projects and/or jointly supervising postgraduates.
SKLCC has also been very active in organizing national and international symposia, conferences, workshops and/or researcher seminars in relevant research fields. Hundreds of Staff and students have also been actively participating in international conferences held overseas.
The international exchange bases established:
Us-China Clean Energy Research Center (the Ministry of Science and Technology)
China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (the Ministry of Education)
International Joint Research Center of Clean Coal Utilization (the Ministry of Science and Technology)
Virtual Cooperative Research Centre of Coal Combustion Science and Technology, MOE
SKLCC has also established an advanced information system and computer network. Funded by the Ministry of Education, the Virtual Cooperative Research Centre of Coal Combustion and Technology is based in SKLCC and is an advanced information platform, which provides an integrated information system covering fundamental knowledge, industry development, technological application and other aspects of coal combustion science and technology. The system also provides online discussion and expert forum to provide expert answers and solutions for issues commonly rising from the industry. The virtual research centre has been well received frequent visits from professional personnel in the field.
