Sino-German Medical Education League founded

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of HUST, the Inaugural Meeting of the Sino-German Medical Education League initiated by HUST was held at Tongji Medical College on October 5th. The Sino-German Medical Education Forum was held at the same time.


 

                                             


President You Zheng and Vice President Wei Le of Heidelberg University attended the meeting online. Vice President Chen Jianguo presided over the meeting.

President You Zheng delivered a speech with the theme of "A New Start of Win-win Situation, Long Lasting the Sino-German Friendship".


He noted that the establishment of the League was vital to the establishment of a high-quality medical education system and the promotion of medical reform and innovation in the new era, and at the same time, it also contributed to the deeper cooperation between China and Germany in the medical and health field, promoting the wellbeing of people of both countries and establishing a community with a shared future for mankind. President You expected the universities of the two countries to take full advantage of the platform to conduct all-round and multi-level cooperation to achieve breakthroughs in health, clinical diagnosis and treatment, drug and vaccine research and development. He also hoped that both sides can advance collaboration in medical education by establishing a cooperative school system with reciprocal accreditation.

Then President You looked back on the history and achievements of cooperation between Heidelberg University and HUST in scientific research projects, faculty and personnel training. Wei Le, Vice President of Heidelberg University, said the establishment of the league was a crucial step to strengthening bilateral communication and cooperation. He expected both sides would improve personnel training, strengthen the collaborative innovation of scientific research, promote the integrated development of teaching, medical and scientific research and make positive contributions to public health in both countries.

Ruth, director of the Beijing Office of Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), said the past five years had witnessed the rapid growth of academic exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, and it was essential for both sides to work together to address with global challenges. Boog, vice President of Chinesisch-Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizin (CDGM), said that the objective of addressing common concerns in medicine and health through academic cooperation, which was proposed during his visit to Tongji Medical College in the 1980s, still had strong relevance today. Renz, vice President of Affiliated Hospital of Medical College, University of Marburg, said that epidemic response was inseparable from close international cooperation, and joint efforts were required for a better medical environment in the future.



Professor Koshchenk of Heidelberg University, German coordinator of the League’s Preparatory Group, and Poysov, Director of the Office of International Affairs of Cologne University, introduced the background and preparation process of the League. Koshchenko said that the League was expected to build new bridges for cultural communication and people-to-people exchanges between China and Germany. Shu Xiaogang, Chinese coordinator of the League's preparatory group and vice president of Tongji Medical College, introduced the work of the League in the next stage.


After the Inaugural Meeting, the Sino-German Medical Education Forum was held. Professor Konini of Cologne University and Professor Wang Weimin, Deputy Director of Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), both made academic reports about “Global Action: A Registry Study of Improving the Care of Patients with Fungal Infection” and "Overview of the Development of Medical Education in China".


A total of 120 representatives from nearly 20 Chinese and German universities, including Peking University, Fudan University and Heidelberg University, attended the meeting online and offline.
