ANU delegation visits HUST

On March 7, a delegation from the Australian National University (ANU), led by Professor Steve Eggins, Interim Dean of the ANU College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics, and Jay Poria, Manager of ANU’s International Relations & Partnerships—STEMM, visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). They were received by Hu Jiabing, Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Cai Jianming, Dean of the School of Physics, and representatives from the School of Computer Science and Technology, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, the School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation. The meeting was chaired by Jiang Jing, Deputy Director of HUST’s Office of International Affairs.

 

 

Hu Jiabing welcomed the delegation and introduced them to the history, academic programs, and research strengths of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Jiang Jing gave an overview of HUST’s international strategy and the International Education and Scientific Innovation Campus (Junshan Campus). She expressed the hope that the two universities would cooperate in the interdisciplinary STEMM fields and combine mutual strengths to promote the training of international cross-disciplinary talent.

 

 

Professor Eggins expressed his appreciation for HUST’s reception. He outlined the development of the ANU College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics and the ANU College of Science. He also emphasized the shared strengths and objectives between the two universities, hoping to find opportunities of cooperation in the fields of education and scientific research, and to forge a lasting partnership with HUST.

 

 

 

In the discussion session, participants introduced their schools and cooperation proposals respectively. Discussions were focused on exploring joint talent training programs at undergraduate and graduate level and expanding summer/winter exchange programs.

 

 

The delegation then visited the School of Physics. Cai Jianming briefed the delegation on the school’s academic development and international collaborations. He proposed cooperation between HUST and ANU in joint research, as well as faculty and student exchanges. Jay Poria expressed the hope that the two schools could complement each other’s strengths, enhance research collaboration, and explore possibilities of joint programs.

 

After the session, the delegation visited the National Precise Gravity Measurement Facility at HUST.
