On March 17, the 15th China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Conference was held in Beijing. The meeting commended advanced units and individuals who had contributed to the integration of industry, university and research in 2023. Professor Chen Jihong from the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST won the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Industry-University-Research Institute Cooperation in 2023. This award recognizes only ten individuals each year.

With the theme of “Industry-University-Research Focuses: New Growth Drivers, New Models and Emerging Industries”, the 15th China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Conference explored how to promote the construction of modern industrial system and high-quality development through industry-university-research collaborative innovation.

The award, approved by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Office for Science and Technology Awards, is the highest honor for the integration of industry, university and research. It recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions in promoting the industry-university-research collaborative innovation.

Chen Jihong, Director of the National Nc System Engineering Research Center of the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST, Deputy Director of the National Center of Technology Innovation for Intelligent Design and Numerical Control, and Chairman of Wuhan Huazhong Numerical Control Co., Ltd. (HuazhongCNC for short), has long been engaged in the research, development and industrialization of numerical control systems, intelligent manufacturing and industrial robots. He has obtained more than 50 software copyrights, formulated and drafted 13 national and industry standards for numerical control systems, and won two National Science and Technology Progress Awards.

The School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST has been actively promoting the open teaching mode for many years, connecting teaching with society and industry. Relying on the national scientific research and innovation platform, it has been cultivating numerous innovative talents to promote the transformation and development of traditional industries.

Over the years, HuazhongCNC has been committed to the deep integration with HUST as well as to the talent training of the CNC system and the intelligent equipment industry.

In the future, the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST will actively establish a win-win mechanism of industry-university-research cooperation, and HuazhongCNC will focus on the innovation and ecological development of “industrial mother machines”, machines used to manufacture machines. The two parties will make a concerted effort to promote scientific and technological innovation.
