HUST-UoB joint education program launched

On May 30, Adam Tickell, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Birmingham, and  Jon Frampton, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor (China) led a delegation to visit HUST and attended the launching ceremony of the joint undergraduate program in Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy as well as a medical round table. Zhang Guangjun, Chair of the University Committee of HUST, Zhan Yiqing, Vice President of HUST, Dominic McAllister, Consul-General of the United Kingdom in Wuhan and relevant representatives from HUST were present. 

 

Zhang Guangjun firstly expressed his welcome to the delegates and thanked them for promoting the joint education program. He noted that both HUST and the University of Birmingham are top institutions in China and the UK. The joint program in Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy aims to train leading talents in medicine and health with solid knowledge and international competence. He hoped that the two universities would seize the opportunity to deepen cooperation in medicine and engineering, contribute to the construction of a community with a shared future for the mankind and provide higher education solutions to better address global challenges. 

 

According to Adam Tickell, the steady progress of the joint education program benefited from the close cooperation between the two sides. He hoped to continue with the preparation for recruitment and facilitate collaboration in research and education in the future. He wished that both universities would continue to uphold the spirit of openness, inclusiveness and mutual learning to promote and witness greater achievements.

 

During the strategic dialogue session, Zhan Yiqing briefly reviewed the preparation of the program, expressed gratitude to both sides and encouraged the teams to keep up with the efficient collaboration to provide students with quality learning experience.

 

Jon Frampton expressed his best wishes for the program, hoping that this event could serve as a new start for further cooperation and contribute to Sino-UK cooperation on science and education.

 

 Dominic McAllister, Consul-General of the United Kingdom in Wuhan, said that he witnessed the signing of the joint education program agreement last March and was glad to see its official launch.

 

Zhang Yonghui, Vice Dean of Tongji Medical College and Dean of the School of Pharmacy, said that the school would work closely with the British side to optimize the program design, make full preparation for recruitment and build a well-recognized joint education brand.

Later, Zhang Guangjun and Adam Tickell signed a memorandum on further cooperation in medicine and health and unveiled the joint education program in Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy.

In the afternoon, a medical round table was held both online and offline, co-chaired by Zhan Yiqing and Jon Frampton. Nearly 20 experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on cross-disciplinary cooperation in medicine and engineering, health data sharing and the establishment of joint research platforms, reaching broad consensus.
