From October 25 to 27, the 2024 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Cup and qualifications for the World Games 2025, Chengdu were held in Yichang, Hubei Province. The competition includes Open, Women and Mixed categories, with races held over distances of 200, 500, and 2,000 meters. A total of 16 teams of athletes from 13 countries and regions participated in the event.
Wang Ying and Zuo Panpan from HUST were selected to join Team China, serving as a paddler and a drummer respectively. The team won 7 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in the events. Shen Heng, a young teacher of HUST, participated in the refereeing of competition equipment as a national technical official.
The A-level international event was hosted by the ICF and co-organized by the Chinese Canoe Association, Hubei Administration of Sport and the Yichang Municipal People’s Government. While providing a platform for global dragon boat enthusiasts to communicate and compete, it also demonstrates the Chinese culture and the power of dragon boat racing.
