A delegation from the School of Nursing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) visited the School of Nursing of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on Oct 21. The two sides held in-depth discussions on the differences between nursing education systems, innovative approaches to cultivating high-level nursing professionals, and future directions for research collaboration.

Wang Furong, dean of the HUST School of Nursing, noted that the two schools have maintained close and friendly cooperation since 2010, co-hosting several nursing exchange programs that have benefited more than 80 students from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. The two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding in 2022 and renewed it earlier this year, marking a new stage of stable and substantive partnership.

She expressed hope for deeper collaboration in talent development, scientific research, and faculty exchange, which would contribute to the advancement of nursing under a global vision as well as the healthcare development of both Hubei and Hong Kong.

Professor Janelle Yorke, dean of the PolyU School of Nursing, emphasized the strong alignment between the two institutions in academic structure and development priorities. She said the PolyU-Wuhan Science and Technology Innovation Research Center would serve as a key platform to enhance collaboration and research synergy.

Professor Yang Lin, director of the smart care innovation research center under the PolyU-Wuhan Science and Technology Innovation Research Center, introduced the center’s major research focuses, including AI-driven hospital infection control, digital management of chronic diseases in community healthcare, and XR-AI nursing education. These areas align with HUST’s research priorities, paving the way for future cooperation in intelligent elderly care robots and life-cycle health management.

During the discussion session, the two sides explored opportunities to co-launch a doctoral education program, establish a demonstration base for Wuhan-Hong Kong cooperation, and promote integration across academia, industry, and research.
