The finals of the 2025 Global Alumni Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition were held in Wuhan on Oct 12. The event was organized by Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and focused on medical-engineering integration and health.

The event awarded special prizes to two outstanding projects: the A36-Spectral Imaging Flow Cytometer in the startup category, and the D16-Hezhizheng Medical Device Advanced Manufacturing System Innovative Platform Solution in the growth category.

Emphasizing the integration of medicine and engineering, this competition aligns with China’s national “Healthy China” strategy. It utilizes HUST’s interdisciplinary strengths, featuring innovative projects that reflect the latest trends and future directions in the health industry.

To further support alumni development, the university launched the "Young Alumni Growth Support Program". This initiative includes a mentor database, lifelong learning courses, and diverse exchange activities – all aimed at building a sustainable growth ecosystem that promotes professional development, career collaboration, and a shared sense of community.

Wuhan’s Hongshan district remains committed to ongoing policy improvements and enhanced services, with Wuhan Industry Investment & Holding Group also playing a pivotal role in cultivating a robust innovation ecosystem to support the establishment and growth of alumni projects.

The Young Alumni Growth Support Program also appointed its first group of mentors and launched a dedicated contest management platform, with a keynote session examining key success factors for entrepreneurial projects from an investor’s perspective.

With a focus on medical engineering and health innovations, the competition attracted 131 projects and secured over 100 million yuan ($14 million) in investment, with eight leading startup teams signing equity investment agreements.

The HUST Global Alumni Entrepreneurship Competition is a major series of events sponsored by its alumni association, providing comprehensive support for alumni, faculty, students, and others in entrepreneurship. It offers a showcase platform, facilitates financing, industry exchanges, and government-enterprise cooperation. Through these efforts, the competition helps integrate alumni ventures with the university’s scientific innovation resources, building a mutually supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
