Apr 3, 2026

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) held an awarding ceremony for the advisory professorship at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering on March 29, officially appointing Joachim Wosnitza, Chairman of the European Magnetic Field Laboratory and Professor at Dresden University of Technology (TUD), as HUST's Advisory Professor. Wen Jinyu, Vice President of HUST, presented Professor Wosnitza with the appointment certificate.

Wen introduced HUST's distinctive educational strengths, disciplinary structure, and the achievements of the Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center (WHMFC). He emphasized that the appointment aims to strengthen international collaboration in the field of high magnetic fields and to promote deeper Sino-German cooperation in scientific research, talent cultivation, and platform development to deliver more outstanding research outcomes.

Li Liang, Director of WHMFC, introduced Professor Wosnitza as a leading scholar in the field of high magnetic fields on the international stage. Wosnitza has twice served as Head of international expert evaluation panels, assessing the development and operation of HUST's pulsed high magnetic field facilities.

Wosnitza recognized the prominent status and remarkable achievements of HUST's WHMFC in the international high magnetic field community. He stated that as the Advisory Professor, he will promote academic exchanges and collaborative innovation between China and Germany, and support HUST in enhancing its international influence and research capabilities in this domain.

The awarding ceremony was hosted by Sheng Jingbo, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs (Office of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan affairs), and attended by faculty and student representatives from WHMFC.

Following the ceremony, Wosnitza delivered an academic lecture titled Material Research Under High Magnetic Fields. He gave a systematic presentation on the physical properties of materials under extremely high magnetic field conditions, research methodologies, and cutting-edge applications, and engaged in in-depth interaction and discussion with the audience.

Wosnitza has made outstanding academic contributions, publishing over 500 papers in prestigious international journals. He leads Europe's largest pulsed high magnetic field laboratory and has been fostering international collaboration between HUST and TUD's High Magnetic Field Laboratory Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory since 2005. He has also helped establish a cooperation agreement between the two institutions. Additionally, he visited our university for an academic exchange on June 30, 2007, and served as a Member of the international advisory committee for the second phase of HUST's high magnetic field project.
