Professor Bikash Pal from Imperial College London, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK, and a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, visited the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on April 8. The two sides engaged in discussions about international research collaboration. Attendees included Vice Dean Fang Jiakun; Assistant Dean Yan Mingyu; Professors Wu Dan and Xiang Wang from HUST’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Pal delivered a lecture titled Stability Modelling and Analysis of Converter Driven Power System after the meeting. The lecture focused on the electrical impedance analysis framework, which quantifies the interactions between newly added power plants and the rest of the power grid, informing the development of additional grid-connection study protocols.
During the interactive session, attending faculty and students engaged in discussions with Pal on overcoming technical challenges and the practical applications of engineering solutions.
Pal has been dedicated to research in power system stability and has led three major international and multi-institutional collaborative research projects involving partnerships between the UK and China, as well as the UK and India, with the research focusing on renewable energy grid integration and control technologies.
Pal also served as the Chief Technical Advisor for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Clean Development Mechanism expert panel.
