Jing Pengfei, Chair of the School Committee, School of Design at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), led a delegation of faculty and students to Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in Turkiye from June 3 to 6, where they held collaborative discussions with ITU's Faculty of Architecture and various functional departments to promote regular, comprehensive cooperation in design disciplines.
The delegation visited the teaching and research facilities of ITU's Faculty of Architecture and engaged in discussions with Dean Mehmet Kucukmehmetoglu, Vice Dean Hayriye Esbah, and Assistant Dean Ahmet Gun. They discussed the regular exchange mechanism for teachers and students, the establishment of joint laboratories, and collaborative research projects, reaching a preliminary cooperation intent.
HUST’s faculty and student representatives participated in ITU's International Workshop on AI×Design, which focuses on AI-generated design, with Chinese and Turkish students collaborating in groups to complete co-creation projects.
Jing Pengfei and Mehmet Kucukmehmetoglu also inaugurated the "10 years of micro-renewal practices in Dali village" design exhibition. Centered on design-driven sustainable urban-rural renewal, the exhibition showcases the School of Design's achievements in urban and rural community design practices.
The delegation held a dedicated meeting with representatives from ITU's Student Affairs Directorate, China Office, and Faculty of Architecture, focusing on student exchanges, research collaboration, and joint participation in internationally funded projects.
ITU expressed its commitment to further advancing academic collaboration with China, with both parties finalizing the key terms of an inter-university student exchange agreement and confirming the cooperation framework for establishing joint laboratories.
This visit also advanced HUST's internationalization strategy, creating a platform for talent cultivation and research collaboration between the two universities.
