Brain science forum and BCI conference held in Wuhan

The seventh China Brain Science and Neuroregulation Technology Development Summit Forum, along with the Wuhan Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Industry Innovation Development Conference, was held in Wuhan on March 21-22 as a sub-forum of the 8th World Health Expo 2026. The conference was organized by the BCI research institutes at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Tongji Hospital, as well as several enterprises.

The event was attended by Wang Yunfu, Director of the Hubei Health Commission; Xiong Zhengyu, Mayor of Wuhan city; Gao Liang, Vice President of HUST; and more than 2,500 Chinese experts and scholars.

In a speech, Xiong stated that Wuhan would utilize its strengths in science, education, and healthcare to accelerate breakthroughs in BCI technologies, promote commercialization, and refine the industrial ecosystem, aiming to establish a BCI industrial hub.

Key events during the forum included Tongji Hospital, in collaboration with medical institutions across Hubei, unveiling clinically integrated application scenarios for BCI; the launch of the English academic journal Brain Horizons; and the signing agreements between Biolake from the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as the Optics Valley of China)and companies, such as Yiruide Group, Neurodome Co, and Shenchang Medical Co, to establish projects in the valleys BCI industrial hub.

Experts delivered keynote speeches on topics such as neuroregulation and BCI technologies, and discussed technological innovation, clinical applications, and ethical and legal issues at the implantable BCI technology and ethics forum.
