Professor Phoon Kok Kwang, President of the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on July 22. Vice President Zhang Yonghui met with the guest, accompanied by representatives from the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Undergraduate Education, and the School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering.

Zhang Yonghui provided an overview of HUST's development process and academic achievements. He emphasized the university's strong focus on interdisciplinary research, digital and intelligent education, and the integration of industry, academia, and research. Acknowledging global advancements in AI and the accelerating pace of digital transformation, Zhang Yonghui pointed out the potential for collaboration between the two universities. He expressed hope for initiatives such as joint talent cultivation programs, student exchange projects, and pragmatic research collaboration in areas including AI, intelligent construction, and smart cities to foster innovative systems that effectively bridge academia and industry.
Phoon Kok Kwang shared that SUTD positions itself at the forefront of "Design·AI", aiming to nurture tri-skilled talents who embody design thinking, AI proficiency, and expertise in their respective fields. He commended HUST's achievements in integrating industry, academia, and research, as well as in fostering innovative talent development. Phoon Kok Kwang expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral exchanges, explore innovative pathways for academia-industry collaboration, and jointly cultivate creative talents aligned with future industry demands.

Both parties engaged in in-depth dialogues on topics such as education and teaching reforms and new models for cultivating entrepreneurial and innovative talent in the age of AI.
During his visit, Phoon Kok Kwang also toured the School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering and the National Technology Innovation Center for Digital Construction to further deepen exchanges.
